OTs-02 submachine gun (TKB-0217) Cypress was designed in 1972 by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense by designers of the Tula Central Design Bureau of Sports and Hunting Weapon(TsKIB SOO) N.M. Automation of the OTs-02 Cypress submachine gun operates according to a free-breechblock scheme. The trigger mechanism allows firing bursts and single shots from an open bolt. The first studies on the 9-mm OTs-02 "Cypress" submachine gun at TsKIB SOO began back in the 1970s by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. It was designed for the standard 9x18 PM pistol cartridge by designer N.M. Afanasyev with the participation of specialists V.K. Panfilov and D.M. Pleshkova within the framework of the Kustarnik ROC. The first prototype was the experimental TKB-104 Buket submachine gun, in the design of which all technical solutions were worked out, which passed into the production model.

PP-91 "Cypress" submachine gun (also called OTs-02). The development of this model began in 1972, by the Central Design Bureau of Sports and Hunting Weapons (TsKIB SOO) by designer N.M. Afanasyev, chambered for 9x18 PM. Serially produced at the plant PA "ZMZ" PTK "Arms production" in the city of Zlatoust. It was adopted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in 1991. 
"Cypress" is a personal attack and defense weapon. Designed for concealed carrying and destruction of the enemy in conditions requiring silent and flameless shooting.
When creating this model, the Czech submachine gun "Scorpion" CZ-83 was taken, but with significant design improvements. 
Automation at PP - 91 "Cypress" works due to the free travel of the shutter. The trigger mechanism allows single and automatic fire. The fuse box is integrated with the fire translator and is located above the pistol grip on the left side of the weapon. The fuse is mechanical, when turned on, it blocks the firing mechanism and the shutter. The cartridge case is thrown up and back. The barrel of the submachine gun can be fitted with a quick-detachable silencer, which is included as standard. 
The muffler does not have replaceable elements, as a result of this, over time, the sound damping quality does not change. It is also possible to install the LCC, which is mounted under the front of the receiver. Food is made from a box magazine with a capacity of 10, 20 and 30 rounds. Stores for PP - 91 "Cypress" are similar to shops for PP - 71 "KEDR". Barrel resource 6000 shots. Manufacturing of PP "Cypress" is very expensive, in comparison with other PP ("Wedge", "Kedr", "Bizon") because it uses a large number of milled parts. It is very reliable, easy to disassemble and clean. Its small size allows it to be hidden under clothing. The fuse acts as a translator of the fire mode. Placed on the left side, close to the handle, which allows you to switch fire modes with the thumb of the hand that is firing. 
The open-type sight provides targeted shooting at a range of up to 75 m. To increase stability when firing, a folding butt is used, which, in the stowed position, is superimposed on the receiver from above.
Disassembly-assembly of the Cypress submachine gun (OTs-02):
Incomplete disassembly of the submachine gun is carried out for cleaning, lubrication and elimination of minor faults. For incomplete disassembly of the weapon, you must:
1. Disconnect the magazine (grasping the magazine with your fingers right hand, press the magazine latch with your thumb until it stops and pull the magazine out of the guide in a forward motion). Remove the weapon from the fuse by lowering the fuse box down, move the bolt to the rearmost position, check if there is a cartridge in the chamber. Release the bolt, make a control trigger release from the combat platoon.
2. Detach the muffler if attached to the weapon. To do this, move the muffler latch forward, turn it on the barrel, remove the muffler from the barrel in a longitudinal motion.
3. Break the submachine gun. To do this, move the receiver switch box down and, pushing its front part forward, raise the rear part.
4. Remove the shutter with a return mechanism from the receiver in a longitudinal backward movement.
5. Disassemble the muffler. Drown the muffler retainer with a punch and, grasping the housing, unscrew it from the base, turning it counterclockwise. Remove the mesh roll from the base.
The submachine gun is assembled after incomplete disassembly in the reverse order.
